I am writing to share with you a unique opportunity that I’ve been given to go with a team of 13 other individuals serving 3 different cities in Bolivia: La Paz, El Puente, and Caranavi. This will be my second trip serving on the Mission X team to Bolivia, where my experiences from the 2007 trip should help serve junior members of my team. God used us for many amazing things last time, and I am looking forward to seeing all that He will do on this trip.
In 2007, my team started our trip in La Paz, where we stayed for 3 days and became acquainted with those that we’d be serving at the La Paz church. Just off the bus, we were welcomed by Johnny and Pablo Dueri, the senior pastor and youth pastor. They gave us a brief tour of the city before we left to head out into the country.
We traveled next to El Puente, where we stayed 3 days and helped put on a retreat for the youth from 3 Bolivian Churches. Our team leader, Daryn Kinney, taught the messages, and our team led study groups on the messages that we’d just been taught. We played soccer, ultimate frisbee, and basketball. We had a talent show, and played furiously competitive games of “cups”--a game that we thought only those from the USA played--and enjoyed authentic Bolivian cuisine every night. All in all, we had a blast, seeing God work through us in serving the youth in El Puente.
We then travelled to Caranavi for another 3 days, and we brought an orphanage multiple duffel bags filled with supplies from Orlando along with a truck full of supplies from the La Paz church. The orphanage also did not have enough clean water for the 80+ children there, so part of our team set out to clear away a hill to make room for 2 water tanks, while the rest of the team helped care for the children in the orphanage. I personally helped clear the hill for the first day, and half the second day before moving on to spend time with the orphans. There was one little girl who broke my heart. She was 5 years old and had been left at the orphanage 3 weeks earlier by a father who just didn’t want her, and the most heartbreaking part was that she didn’t even have a name yet. Here is a picture of her holding a balloon sword that we made for her.

We headed back to La Paz for the final leg of our journey. This time we visited a burn hospital, and brought toys to the children there. We did some street evangelism, and then hit the Bolivian vendors to purchase souvenirs for our families back home. Daryn taught the 2 Sunday morning messages, and the next day we headed home.
I have never been the same since that trip. There are things that I experienced there that have changed my life forever, and I feel blessed to have been a part of that trip. It brings me great joy and anticipation to have the chance to go back and help the church in all of their endeavors over there.
Each person on the team is expected to raise most of his or her funding for the trip. I need to raise $2,040 by July 1, 2009. The dates for the trip are July 11-22. I can’t raise this money without help from other people. Will you prayerfully consider supporting me by giving a financial gift of any amount? Even a gift of as little as $5, when combined with other small gifts, can help me meet my funding goal.
There are two ways you can give. The first method is via a check payable made to:
Metro Life Church
910 South Winter Park Drive
Casselberry, FL 32707
put "Subrahmanyam Mission Trip" in the memo field.
The second method is a secure donation of any amount through my Dad's paypal account using either your existing PayPal account or just using your credit or debit card. Just click the button below to make a donation (NOTE: you will see premorchid@premdesign.com, my Dad's e-mail address, as the donation recipient with the memo field indicating that it is for Mission X donations). Funds sent by PayPal will not be tax deductible.
Whether you can give to this trip financially or not, please keep me in your prayers. Pray that God provides the funding (through generous donors like yourself) for my trip. Pray for strength for me to be used by God during this trip, as I am ever dependent on the grace of God to make the impossible possible.
Thank you for considering supporting this trip.
Sincerely,
Joshua Subrahmanyam
