Platanthera nivea

Range:

Habitat: terrestrial in moist, open, acidic bogs, prairies, pine woods, and roadsides
Common name: Snowy Orchid
Blooming: May-July
Comments: this species opens its small cluster (3 inches or 7.5 cm tall) of snow-white, crystalline flowers in late spring through mid-summer. Its flowers, rather unique among the Platantheras, are upside-down and lightly fragrant, smelling of orange blossoms.
